Granada celebrated all day yesterday, Saturday May 25, 2013 the second edition of Impresiones Gigantes in which a group of hard-working international lino-cut artists bring their linos out into the park, ink them in front of a mesmerized public, then carefully lay them down on the street , cover them with fabric and run a road roller over them. Shazam! A giant print. Then they hang them all over the bandstand and the lamp posts in the Paseo del Salón. It makes a glamorous display that attracts lots of art lovers and Saturday strollers.
Even a modest event like Impresiones Gigantes takes a lot of organizing. Asked if he’d had enough after two years, Brian Barry, the printmaker from Cork, Ireland who started the steamroller rolling last year says, “Oh no, I’ve got some great new ideas for next year!”

SOooo cool!!! LOVE it!!! Did Maureen have a block in it?
Hi Deb,
She had a 20×20 cm. print in it, the one they sold for money to donate to the Granada Food Bank. She did a big print last year, but didn’t have time this year as she had her studio pretty much full of artists. Actually, the big print she did last year was sold this year to an art gallery owner and the money went to some other charity.
Maureen recently had an artist (a lovely person and a hell of an artist) fly over from Islamabad, Pakistan for a week, just to do a workshop. That tickled me pink.
We miss you, and your Mom. When are you coming back for a therapeutic visit?
Best,
Mike and Maureen
P.S. I’ve spent the last six months working on an online magazine about Spain. Have a look, if you haven’t already: http://alegriaonline.net.
This is wonderful — love the idea and the photos. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for your comment, Linda. It is a delightful event. You would have enjoyed being here. There’s always next year. Mike
Yes, indeed. That thought has struck me…haha. A trip to Spain would be fabulous!
