A City Renowned for a Millenium and a Half
Granada is one of Spain’s–and Europe’s–fabled cities, and the home of one of Europe’s most worthwhile tourist attractions: the Alhambra fortress and castle and its adjacent Generalife Gardens. Not to be missed. But Granada’s attraction goes beyond its historical monuments, it’s musc and dance festival, it’s popular fiestas and the nearby Sierra Nevada ski area and the Mediterranean beach.
I think what surprises most people about Granada–aside from it’s illustrious past and privileged setting between the mountains and the sea– is its vibrant street life, which goes on non stop, night and day, summer and winter in streets, plazas, sidewalk cafes, and city parks. This is a university town with more than 50,000 students, and one of the few places left in Spain where they still serve a free “tapa” with your drink. Granada loves “la calle.” You will, too.
