Pakistani printmaker, Iram Wani, is an extraordinary young person and a talented, hard-working artist, and she was determined to do a workshop with Maureen. She planned to come with a friend, but when that didn’t work out she climbed on the plane by herself and many hours later we picked her up at the Granada airport.
“You’ve had a long trip,” said Maureen, “would you like to rest for a day before starting work? “No, no,” was Iram´s reply, “we start tomorrow morning.” This was the tonic for all of Iram’s one-week stay in Granada. She worked in the mornings, she worked after lunch and she worked at night. Luckily she remembered to save one morning to visit the Alhambra!
According to Maureen, Iram was one of the most gracious and rewarding artists she ever had in her workshop. “She was so quick to pick up on everything,” says Maureen, “and so appreciative of each new technique she learned. When we finished each morning’s work and I came up to lunch Iram would stay in the studio, preparing, refining, getting the most out of her workshop experience. When she left after a week’s work she went home with a headful of ideas and a suitcase full of prints to show to her own printmaking students back in Islamabad.”
How lovely to pass along knowledge to such an eager student! Thanks for sharing this post!
Maureen is a wonderful mentor and an inspiration to us all. To stay in the Gallinero on site is an added bonus
